Oberto started and ended his season strong, starting off with a runner-up finish at The Opener and top Mississippian, and closed it out with a fourth place finish at the 2023 MHSAA 7A Cross Country Championships, just two seconds off of second place. Throw in his third place finish in 15:31 at Watson which was the fourth fastest 5K this season along with his course record at Clinton, and Oberto has come away with a well deserved No. 3 ranking on the final edition of the 2023 All-MileSplit Mississippi team.

This was Brown's highest ever finish at the MHSAA Cross Country Championships, and played a key role in his No. 2 state ranking.

Consistency:

-The undisputed No. 1 distance runner in the state who turned on the heat big time in the latter half of the season, Pearl's JaQuavion Bryant. The fastest 5K in the state, a Mississippi course record at Jesse Owens, and defending his MHSAA 7A (MHSAA 6A last year) title is quite the resume for the Pearl Junior. Lastly, with six straight races under 16 minutes in the 5K, Bryant was consistently at or near the top of his game, giving him the title as the No. 1 distance runner in Mississippi for the 2023 Cross Country season.
