As the 2023 Mississippi high school cross country season draws to a close, MileSplit Mississippi is excited to announce the final edition of the All-MileSplit Mississippi Cross Country Teams, celebrating the top seven boys and girls athletes of the year. This season is hailed as the most competitive and talent-rich in the state's history, setting new benchmarks in Mississippi distance running as a whole.
The All-MileSplit Team rankings are based on a comprehensive evaluation beyond just personal records and State Meet results. Criteria such as consistency, strength-of-schedule, head-to-head matchups, and seasonal averages played a significant role. Additionally, performances in major meets like The Opener, TCPS, Saltillo, Watson, and so on were crucial in these assessments, with greater emphasis placed on the latter half of the season.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, it's important to acknowledge the sheer depth of talent in the state this season across both genders. Many exceptional athletes, despite their remarkable performances, did not make the cut for the All-State Team. This is not a reflection of their abilities or achievements but a testament to the extraordinary level of competition.
