Mayaguez, Peurto Rico --- Representing the United States, Sterling Scott won gold in the triple jump at the U20 Pan American Track Field Championships. With a mark of 51'5", he took down competitors from Chile, Canada, Jamaica, USA, and Puerto Rico.
Already having an incredible post season, Scott qualified to compete at the Pan American Championships after finishing third at the U.S. U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, and he only continued to progress at the Pan Am Championships, breaking the 50' barrier for the second time and earning a foot and a half personal best on his way to the gold medal.
A recent graduate of Starkville High School, he is a 3 x MHSAA 6A State Champion, the 2023 New Balance Nationals Outdoor Champion, and the state record holder in the triple jump.
"I went to puerto rico to handle business, and it just so happens that the competition was over after my first jump", commented Scott on his performance in Puerto Rico.
Scott's performance comes after a string of incredible post-season performances from Mississippi Track and Field athletes, such as Sean Fairley, Heidi Hudson, Jamarcus Garrett, and many others.
Milesplit Mississippi would like to congratulate Sterling, as well as all other post-season competitors haling from the Magnolia State, on his groundbreaking performance on the international stage and wish him the best as he prepares to enter his freshman year at the University of Missouri and looks to continue his success in the NCAA.
