The ladies of Mississippi high school track and field have been putting on a show this week, with some outstanding performances that showcase the increasing depth on the Mississippi High School Track and Field sene. From Katherine Neal's impressive double to Olivia Smith's Mississippi No. 1 800m performance, the girls are definitely making their mark on the sport.
Katherine Neal had a standout performance, achieving an impressive 2:26/5:23 800m/1600m at the Homewood Invitational. Neal is ranked inside the top six in all three distance events, showing off her range and versatility.
Olivia Smith was another standout performer, achieving a Mississippi No. 1 800m performance of 2:23.82, also at the Homewood Invitational. Smith's performance was outstanding, and it's clear that she's one of the top middle-distance runners in Mississippi
Lania McDonald of Gulfport put down her fourth sub-59 seconds 400m performance in a row at the Gaston Hewes Relays, showcasing her dominance in that event. The Yelverton sisters from Biloxi also had a strong showing in the 400m, going 1-2 in the event at the West Harrison Invitational.
Ocean Springs had a strong showing in the distance events, with two lady Greyhounds, Addison Rainey and Sarah Litton, running under 12 minutes in the 3200m, and fellow teammate Maya Messenger securing an All-MileSplit Mississippi 1st-Team standard in the 800m. These athletes are sure to continue to impress as the season progresses.
Charve Gibson also had an impressive showing that deserves a big shoutout, achieving All-MileSplit Mississippi 1st-Team marks in the 300-meter hurdles, Long Jump and Triple Jump. After a middle school national title at the Nike Indoor Championships, Gibson rolled that momentum into outdoor season and continues to impress in multiple events
Lastly, Julie Segroves led an impressive Biloxi trio in the Pole Vault, showcasing her skills and dedication to the event. The girls are definitely making their mark in the field events as well as on the track.
