Jack Hewes has accomplished a lot in Track and Cross Country. He's a junior this year and is currently the #1 runner in 3A, where St. Patrick competes. So far this year, he's run 16:20, but his PR from last year is 15:54. He's a 2:02 half-miler, a 4:33 miler, and a 9:51 two-miler on the track. DP: What is your name, what grade are you in, and what school do you attend?
JH: My name is Jack Hewes, and I am in 11th grade at Saint Patrick High School in Biloxi, Miss.
DP: What is your GPA and ACT score?
JH: I have a 4.0 GPA and a 32 on my ACT.
DP: Nice! What is your favorite color?
JH: Purple
DP: What is your current PR in the 5K?
JH: 15:54
DP: What is the next goal, time, or mark you are trying to hit?
JH: My next goal is to win gold at state.
DP: Gotcha; what is your favorite workout your Coach has you do?
JH: 20-minute tempo run.
DP: What is your least favorite workout?
JH: 300-meter repeats.
DP: What got you started in cross country?
JH: After a solid performance in my first track season, Coach McDaniel asked me to join the team.
DP: What are your plans after high school?
JH: To study biology in college and possibly run.
DP: What motivates you to train?
JH: Jesus and my teammates.
DP: Do you have any superstitions on a meet day or perhaps an odd pre-meet routine?
JH: I have no superstitions. The only thing I do before a meet is to make sure to drink some caffeine.

JH: Gatorade
DP: What is your favorite subject in school?
JH: It is between English, science, and theology.
DP: What is your favorite Cross Country memory?
JH: Breaking 16 for the first time at Watson last year.
DP: What is your favorite course and why?
JH: Definitely the course at Mississippi College. It is a great course, and I can always run fast there.
DP: Who is your favorite musical artist?
JH: Zach Bryan
DP: My daughter loves him too; what is your favorite brand of running shoes?
JH: Nike

JH: Untucked
DP: Do you have a favorite meal for the night before a meet?
JH: I like rice with some sort of protein.
DP: Who is your favorite athlete in any sport, and why?
JH: Steph Curry because of his work ethic.
DP: Do you take ice baths? If yes, what do you think about during an ice bath?
JH: I do not take ice baths.
DP: Name a lesson that cross country has taught you.
JH: Endurance through pain leads to beautiful things.
DP: Do you have a rival runner?
JH: Even though I will probably never race him again, it is definitely Keegan Leverett.
DP: Who is your team's biggest rival?
JH: St. Stanislaus
DP: What is the weirdest thing you've seen at a meet?
JH: I have seen multiple people throw up.
DP: Gross. What do you do to recover after a meet?
JH: Eat, foam roll, and sleep.
DP: What's your favorite sport to watch?
JH: College Football
DP: What is your favorite thing about your coach?
JH: He is always pushing me to reach my fullest potential.
DP: Who is your biggest fan?
JH: My mom.
DP: What advice would you like to share with younger runners, maybe the JH kids on your team?
JH: Have as much fun as possible.
DP: Have you had any injuries you've had to deal with in your career?
JH: I have not had any serious injuries, but I have dealt with tendonitis in different areas of my legs and blisters on my feet.
DP: What is your greatest accomplishment in cross country?
JH: Helping the team win a state championship in my first Cross Country season.
DP: What is an outrageous fear that you have? For example, I fear sharks in a swimming pool.
JH: I am scared of heights, even if the height is only ten feet.
