The Rundown:
For the individual girls, a few names stand out among the entries.
Going in as the top seed is Lucy Littlejohn of French Camp High School. As of right now, she is the only girl in the entries who has gone under 20 minutes for the 5k this season. She did so at the 2022 Saltillo Invitational on the way to a victory.
In addition to that, she has also placed 1st at the 2022 French Camp Invitational as well as a podium finish at the 2022 Tupelo Invitational.
Her consistency as a runner has been her trademark this season, so look for Littlejohn to be a main contender for the win.
Another athlete to look out for is the defending champion, Emily Ireland. She ran 19:42 on this course last year, and with her experience on this course, can not be counted out for a solid performacne.
Also look out for Madeline Moore of Pearl High School, coming off an amazing race from last week.
At the 2022 Jesse Owens Classic, she had a huge personal best dipping under the 21 minute barrier for the first time, running 20:26 for 5k and improving upon her previous best time by a whopping 40 seconds.
Results: 2022 Jesse Owens Classic
It will be exciting to see how she races after coming off a race like that. Another name to look for is Katherine Neal also of Pearl, who finished just behind Moore at Jesse Owens and who has had two performances in the mind 20-minute range this season.
Rounding out the girls, is the Madison Central's Alex Lee, who has gone 20:24 this season, who has had a great freshman campaign, and should be in the mix to to challenge any of the girls in the field
Editor's Pick: We have a plethora of talent in this competition, but we believe that Littlejohn stands out from the rest. Her consistent top notch performances this season are too far to overlook and cause us to call the win the fall in her favor at the 2022 Jaguar Trails Invitational.
