----

The number of Mississippi competitors on Friday night at the 2022 RunningLane Track Championships was few, but the PR's coming from those athletes were plentiful.

As a matter of fact, we even had some heat winners: Brooklyn Biancamano of Long Beach High School, and Sidney Stegall of Heritage Academy

In my own recollection, I remember yelling at Gabe McElwain as he was having the race of his, "Put Mississippi on the Map!" That's exactly what he did, running 9:47 for 3200 meters, a 15-second PR, and closing in a 1:10 for the last 400 meters (4:40 mile pace).

To put it in perspective, day one of the 2022 RunningLane Track Championships was much like the 2021 RunningLane Cross Country Championships... You just had to be there. We simply do not get meets and atmospheres like that in Mississippi. However, we are definitely on our way to doing so.

One thing is for sure: Mississippi is being put on the map. The state is continually gaining experience from meets such as these and is getting better and better each time we race in championship environments.

Simply put, the athletes of Mississippi have been crushing the championship circuit. From Jordan Anthony and Kennedi Sanders beating the pro's, to Evan Hallford's 11:06 3200m PR that he ran last night (as just an 8th-grader!), each and every Mississippi athlete is a part of making a change for the good of our sport in the state.

Day two of the 2022 RunningLane Track Championships is now on deck, with many of Mississippi's finest middle-distance runners ready to continue off of the momentum that was created the night prior.
