PREVIEW: HS Boys to Watch at 2022 Starkville HS S.O.

Christian Stallworth

School: Northeast Lauderdale High School

Events: HSB 100mH, 300mH

Highlighting the 2022 Starkville High School Season Opener is one of the best-returning hurdlers in the state, Christian Stallworth of Northeast Lauderdale. Stallworth's PR's of 14.78w and 40.96 in the 110mH/300mH set him apart from the rest of the field, and we will get to see where Stallworth's fitness is at more of a low-key season opener. The last time Stallworth stepped on the track, it was the Mississippi Meet of Champions when he finished runner-up to Adam Augustine and took down notables such as Javarius Molden and CJ Clayton. Stallworth will surely be chasing some MHSAA 4A titles this season as he finished runner-up in both hurdle events in 2021, and the 2022 Starkville Season Opener will be the start of the journey for the Northeast Lauderdale senior superstar.

Rhett Schimpf

School: Starkville High School

Events: HSB 1600m, 3200m

One of the top distance runners headlining the 2022 Starkville HS Season Opener is Starkville's own, Rhett Schimpf. Schimpf made a name for himself during the 2021 cross country campaign when he placed 6th at the 2021 MHSAA 6A Cross Country State Championships, and then backed it up with a 3rd-team All-State finish at the 2021 Mississippi All-State Meet of Champions. He will be opening up his outdoor campaign on his home turf, where he is entered in both the 1600m and 3200m. Schimpf competed in one meet during the 2021-22 indoor season, which was a 4:56 1600m at the 2021 Magic City Invitational. I think he has more in him than that, and he will have his teammates Giles Jones and Chris Bell there to push him as well.

Sterling Scott

School: Starkville High School

Events: HSB Long Jump, Triple Jump

Yet another high school boy opening up their season at his home turf, this time in the field, is Starkville High's, Sterling Scott. Scott is a menace in all of the jumps, with PR's of 6-2 in the High Jump, 21-2.5 in the Long Jump, and 43-9.75 in the Triple Jump. He will be headlining his specialty events, the Long Jump and Triple Jump, at his home season opener as the favorite to take both titles. Scott is also a state qualifier in both of those events and hasn't competed since the 2021 MHSAA 6A State Championships. He will surely be shooting for a medal this outdoor season, and the 2022 Starkville HS Season Opener to do so - He will have 2021 MHSAA 4A State Qualifier in the Triple Jump Michah O'Daniel in the Triple Jump to push him as well.
