Continuing off of the Top Returning Small School Runners articles from a couple of weeks ago, this is using the same format of combining MHSAA 1A and 2A, as well as most of the MAIS, and combining them into 1 category - This seems like the most reasonable way to measure teams across the state as many schools differ in student sizes, and is also very similar to the format that Louisiana is moving to next year.
The top 2 teams in this section separated by only 8 points in a HUGE virtual meet (found on the next page) are East Rankin, the 2021 MAIS 5A State Champions, and in-class rival Columbia, who are the 2021 Mississippi Meet of Champions winning team.
Although Simpson is the on-paper favorite in MAIS 5A, they technically fit the description of the Medium School Category when dividing it up into Small School, Medium School, and Large School. With that being said, the East Rankin girl's squad are the next ones up. East Ran...
