Mississippi XC Weekend Recap: Fireworks at Pontotoc Invite

Cathedral Invitational

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS

In this stacked private school race, which included East Rankin and Columbia, the Jackson Preparatory girls finally returned their full squad and handily won the meet with 30 points as they placed their scoring 5 inside of the top 12, along with Julia Stradinger snagging her 4th win of the season.

Now back with their full squad, Prep will be vying to get an automatic qualifier to the All-State Meet next weekend at MC Watson, as they will also have their eyes set on the team title. This will be a very tough feat to accomplish, however, as they will be going against the 2 undefeated teams in Mississippi - Hernando from the North and Ocean Springs in the South, the top 2 teams in Mississippi this year. Prep is currently ranked 3rd. It will be a very exciting and interesting matchup to see how they fare against the top-heavy Hernando and pack running Ocean Springs, but definitely expect them to mix things up in this star-studded race.

Hendrix Eldridge of St. Aloysius continues to show promise as she backed up her performance from the MRA Invitational getting 4th in a loaded field. This time, however, she brought her teammate along with her, Samantha Edwards. Edwards actually finished 3rd, 4 seconds in ahead of Eldridge and a 50 second PR. I don't know what these private school girls have been doing to get these huge PR's, but whatever they are doing it is working!

East Rankin's Leah Collipp finished 2nd overall in 21:03, 5 days before running at Jaguar Trails.

In the High School Boys race, the young talent Elliot Davis got his 2nd win of the season in 17:46 and was the lone runner to break 17 on that day. Davis and teammate / 4:41 1600m runner Charlie Hight went 1-2 and lead Prep to their 3rd team title of the season.

Davis is slated to run in the Gold Division at Watson next weekend, and will surely be eyeing the time of 16:55, the top time in MSAIS 6A held by MRA's Will Triplett.
