Mississippi Weekend Cross Country Preview

James Mathews

A busy weekend of meets leading up to Regional week. Many teams are trying to run fast times to meet MHSAA qualifying standards. The many meets that are scheduled in the north part of the state will spread the top runners around. If you look close though you will see some teams running at multiple meets due to meets being rescheduled from the bad weather that we had last weekend.

Probably the biggest meet in the North will be the Pontotoc XC Invitational with many of the top teams attending. Class 6A power teams are Tupelo High and Oxford High. Tupelo has super eighth grader Taylor Brown, while Oxford has senior Chase Rose. Saltillo High leads the Class 5A teams with Mia Card and Madison Jones. In Class 4A you have Corinth High and of course Pontotoc High. Class 1A powerhouse Tupelo Christian is scheduled to be there and at French Camp so it will be interesting to see where they go.
