The Brandon Bulldogs Cross Country teams had great showings at meets these past two weekends. First, at the Madison XC Classic.
The Bulldogs had a solid showing, running well on the flat, fast four kilometer course. We all enjoyed stepping down from 5k to do some shorter racing. Our boys team finished second behind Madison Central by a close margin and the girls had a great performance while battling injuries. Boys notable performances included Cameron Entremont, Layton Levingston, and Sam Lovette who all broke 15 minutes on the course. Girls notables included Katie Kirby and Megan Henry who both finished in the top 10. As well as varsity, our middle schoolers also had a solid meet, this being their first of the season.
On the grueling Clarkdale course, the Bulldogs continued to have success. Both the boys varsity and junior varsity teams came away with the 1st place trophy! The girls team placed second in the varsity and did not score in the jv race. Some notables from these races included Sam Lovette, Matt Byrd, Cameron Entremont and Jonathan Briggs. For the girls, notables were Katie Kirby and Megan Henry who went 2,3 in the varsity girls race. Both the JV teams had great showings, however, results on their races are not in. Our boys Middle school had a great second meet, running in second place. Our girls middle school only ran 4 runners, leaving them scoreless. All in all, the Bulldogs have had a solid past few weeks and are hoping for greater things as the season progresses.
Personally, I have had fairly solid races and training the past few weeks. I finished second at the Madison XC Classic, running
13:16 for 4k. This past weekend at Clarkdale, I was blessed to have been able to pull off the win on a very tough course. The time was an unimpressive 18:12, but I was content nonetheless. I'm looking forward to getting another chance to race this Saturday against some of the best in the state at the Clinton Invitational.
Till next time,
Austin Bourne
