This week has been a very exciting week over at Northwest Rankin. This past Saturday we competed at the Madison XC Classic, and we had an extremely strong performance. We had a lot of runners in the top 20 of each race, and many runners left the meet with a PR. The weather was absolutely perfect, and we couldn't have asked for a better day to run.
In the varsity girls' race, we had three runners in the top 20. Autumn DeHuff led the way with a time of 17:19 and coming in ninth place. Skyler Ellis followed closely behind with a 17:27 coming in thirteenth place. I followed her in eighteenth place and a time of 17:52. I ended up improving by 1:48 from the last 4k we ran this season. We ended up coming in fourth out of eleven teams. It was a great race for the varsity girls, and we feel like we can keep building on this momentum.
Our varsity boys only had two in the top 20, but there was a lot of tough competition. They all still had great runs. JJ Kaler came in fourth with a time of 13:31, which was a 28 second improvement from our first 4k of this season. Timothy Jackson ran a 14:39 coming in nineteenth. We finished in fifth out of eighteen schools.
Our middle school girls had the strongest race of the day. They ended up coming in first overall. Emma Sammons came in second place with a 14:41. Makenzie Young came in sixth running a 15:30. Savannah Dinger came in ninth with a 15:43. Johnna Nail and Madilyn Beck rounded out the top 20 coming in seventeenth and eighteenth.
Three of our middle school boys made it in the top 20. Grayson Edwards won the race with a time of 12:05. Shaw Bergold followed in fifth place, and John Sasser came in eleventh. All of our runners did amazing at this meet, and we couldn't be more impressed!
As we hit midseason, I take time to reflect on how this season has gone so far. We've had some bumps in the road due to injuries and cancelled meets, but I'm very happy with how this season is going so far. I'm so proud of everyone, and I know that we will only continue to improve. I couldn't ask for better teammates and coaches. I hate that this is my last season, but if I had to pick a season to be my last, I would most definitely pick this one. This season will be our most memorable, and no one can deny that.
Until next week,
Madeleine Biddle
