An Interview with Lina May, Vancleave High School

DP:  What is your name, what grade are you in, and what school do you go to?

LM:  I am Lina May and I am a senior at Vancleave High School.

DP:  What is your current Personal Record (Best Time)?

LM:  In the 5K my PR is 18:49.

DP:  Wow, What is the next goal or time that you are trying to hit?

LM:  I want to break18 minutes.

DP:  What is your favorite workout your Coach has you do?

LM:  Bleachers.

DP:  What is your least favorite workout?

LM:  Mile repeats.

DP:  But mile repeats are awesome!  What are your plans after high school?

LM:  I want to go to college and continue running cross country and track at the next level.

DP:  What motivates you to run?

LM:  I really just loving running.  I love seeing myself becaome stronger, faster, and more fit every year.

DP:  What do you think about when you're running?

LM:  I pray a lot.  I pretty  much talk to God the whole time I'm running.

DP:  Do you have any superstitions on race day or perhaps an odd pre-race routine?

LM:  Yes, I have to wear my pink headband.  I also listen to music to get myself pumped up before a race.

DP:  Two quick ones. . . Gatorade or Powerade?

LM:  Gatorade!

DP:  Jersey (Singlet), tucked or untucked?

LM:  Tucked.

DP:  What is your GPA and ACT score?

LM:  I have a 3.6 GPA and my ACT is currently a 22.

DP:  Do you have a favorite meal for the night before a race?

LM:  This is weird, but grilled salmon, black beans and yellow rice.

DP:  That's not weird, it sounds good.  So, do you take ice baths?  If yes, what do you think about during an ice bath?

LM:  No.

DP:  Name a lesson that running and training as a runner has taught you.

LM:  Hard times don't last forever.  If you don't give up and keep pushing yourself whatever has been holding you back will eventually disappear and you will come back even stronger than before.

DP:  What do you do to recover after a race?

LM:  Slow job about a mile, stretch, drink lots of water and eat a big meal.

DP:  What is your favorite thing about your coach?

LM:  My dad is my coach - he's always there pushing me no matter what.

DP:  Who is your biggest fan?

LM:  My biggest fans are my mom, dad, and grandma.

DP:  What advice would you like to share with younger runners, maybe the JH kids on your team?

LM:  Don't be discouraged if you aren't one of the top runners in races or on your team.  As long as you keep pushing yourself at practice and races you will continue to get faster.

DP:  Is there anything else you want to share with the MileSplit Community?

LM:  Thank you MileSplit for making registering for meets, seeing race results, and seeing pictures so much easier.
