Caitlin: Our meet this past weekend, the St. Andrew’s Invitational, went pretty eventfully for my sisters and me. We all set new PRs for ourselves, and I set my new PR by a minute, but then I also passed out and had to go to the hospital in an ambulance, but thankfully all is okay and I have now been released to get back to running (YAY!!!). That was definitely an interesting experience which I really hope NOT to experience again. Great job to everyone who competed Saturday! It was an excellent meet and our support goes out to all the teams competing this weekend. The Pirates XC have an open weekend this week and next week, and our next meet will be Jesse Owens in Alabama on October 4th. During that race, my sister Hannah will attempt to break the school record set by Haley Brown for the fastest 5K time. Good luck to all our fellow athletes during their weekend endeavors and may you all run well and be blessed! Just remember “gold medals aren’t really made of gold, they are made of hard work, determination, and guts.”
Clare: Totally awesome race this past weekend!! I loved the prayer before the race, when we all gathered into a circle and prayed together. There was some good competition and I had a PR! I’m really proud of our team, both boys and girls. Nakenbe Fleming was Clarion Ledger athlete of the week and Hannah broke 20:00. Caitlin scared us when she passed out, but she is doing well now. My dad took Hannah and I out to Logan’s for our birthday and the waiters “sang” happy birthday (I would’ve called it yelling, but….) and we ate a lot, as usual. Believe it or not, during our mileage run on Thursday, we saw a really large iguana sunbathing on a tree branch at the Pearl Park, so I guess you never guess what you might run into (ha-ha). I hope you all had an equally great week and good luck this weekend!!
Hannah: This week has been great!!! God blessed us with some great racing weather. I was very pleased with my time this past weekend and hope to do even better at Jesse Owens, maybe even break Haley Brown’s 5K record of 19:10. I had a great time talking to the Mattox sisters but missed Walker, who wasn’t in attendance due to the ACT. I was very proud of how our team performed, especially Nakenbe Fleming who was Clarion Ledger Athlete of the Week! My sister Caitlin gave us a bit of a scare, but she is feeling better now and back to her annoying self (just kidding – love ya sis!) Monday was mine and Clare’s 14th birthday – we had a great day, were allowed to attend morning runs, and took some selfies along the way.
We wish everyone the best of luck this weekend and may the “course” be with you, especially our friend, Alexis Vaughn, who is coming back from an Achilles injury!
