The Northeast Invitational started fast and stayed on time and actually finished racing before the last race was supposed to start according to the schedule. With a total of 7 races at NE Recreation Park racing was fast and continous.
The girls varsity 4000 meter run (2.5 miles) was up first and off fast. The twins Kyarrah and Kyannah Grant from Choctaw went out then led the way home as Choctaw Central took first place over MCGill-Toolen Catholic of Mobile, Alabama. Ryarrah led sister Kyannah home by a mere .35 seconds. With both teams finishing at least 5 runners in the top 20 it was over for the rest of the field. Final results for this race should be out in the next day or so.
Boys Varsity came up next and this time it was McGill-Toolen Catholic winning over Brandon. Top time of the day for 5000 meter was Andrew Dunn of McGill-Toolen in 17:49.17.
Girls JV 4K was the 3rd high school race of the day.https://ms.milesplit.com/admin/articles/new Due to some late scratches on McGill-Toolen and Brandon lined up with at least 5 runners. Phobie Lee of MCGill-Toolen won with a nice 18:26 4K run as her team took first place over Brandon.
In the forth race of the day is was the Boys JV 5K run. Seven teams were vying for the win but McGill-Toolen finished with the Top 4 places to win easily over Brandon. John Williams of MCGill-Toolen led the way with a 19:51 win.
Next up were the Middle Schools
Race 6 was the Boys Middle School 3200 meters. McGill-Toolen won with 30 over Brandon (42) and Baker, Mobile (52). It was Reed Akey of Baker with the win in 12:14.32.
The seventh race was the Girls Middle School 3200 meters. Three teams plus a number of other runners lined up for the start. But it was Host Northeast Lauderdale taking 5 of the top 10 place including 2nd and 3rd to win with 25 to Brandons 48 and Bakers 53. Sarah Sandelwick of Brandon winning in 15:01.
The first run of the day was an 1st - 6th grade 1 mile fun run. A total fo 7 boys and girls lined up and it was 10 year old Brooke Robinson of Clarkdale winning in 7:08.
The weather was great and heat was not a factor. Special thanks to Meridian Parks and Recreation for getting the course in great shape and to Metro Ambulance for providing Medical Support.
