Slow week in Cross Country and Rain

Between the rain and only a few meets on the schedule it was a slow week for Mississippi. So far it looks like the only meet run was at Saltillo. Even with it being wet there the times were pretty fast and the competition pretty dang good. Hope it continues up north at the rate they are running we could see some fast times at State out of the northern school.

Meanwhile in the middle of the state the only meet on the calendar there was my Northeast Invitational. The threat of bad thunderstorms plus heavy rain forced the postponement fo what looked like a great meet. There were 19 teams scheduled to compete with schools from all levels including McGill-Toolan from Mobile. While the thunderstorms did not materialize the rain was heavy which made the start and finish too sloopy to run. In fact there probably would have been lost shoes due to the mud. The shorter runners might have had to be pulled out of the mud in some places. That brings to mind the year at Mississippi State when part of the course was so deep some of the runners could have had a swimming meet. There were no other meets on the calendar in the center of the state so if you did have one send the results and I will post.

In the south for a third week there was a meet but no results. Now the weather may have been a factor this weekend but no excuse for the other races. Only a few teams from down south have ventured out into other races so we have very few results from teams down there. Saint Stanislaus ran in Florida I believe and posted some good times so they are there but other than Regen McGee running at Mississippi College that is all. Now I know that the south has some great teams with some kids that colleges might want to look at so it is a shame that we get no times or meet results. If you athletes want to get your times posted get after the coaches to send them in same thing for you parents. Parents you can also post pictures on a meet website if you want to just call me and I will be glad to tell you how.

In other news Meridian Community College will be returning to the ranks of JUCO's competing in Cross Country and Track and Field starting 2014. This is great news for those runners that want to compete at a higher level after high school. Look for an interview that I am going to do with the new Coach.
