A week after signing with Ole Miss, Rockledge senior Kaira Simmons further proved why she is one of the best long jumpers in the state and in the country. Simmons kicked off her road to state and the 2A District 13 Championship with a state leading and US#5 long jump of 20'1.25". Coach Alex Jamison says the goal is to have her at 21 feet by the end of the year.

The Brooks PR Invitational brings together the nations top track and field athletes from across the country to compete at the Dempsey Center in Seattle, Washington, one of the fastest indoor tracks in the nation. The meet consists of seven events the 60 meter dash, 60 meter hurdles, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, one mile run, and two mile run. The home state is well represented sending the most of any state, 20 athletes to nearby Seattle. Leading up to the meet we will spotlight these talented runners.

  As Track and Field season approaches, runners all across the nation are preparing themselves for the grueling season ahead.  Miles upon miles are run, and early morning trips to the weight room dominate the lives of the most dedicated student athletes.  However, high school seniors have the rest of their lives to prepare for, as well.  College signing season is upon us, and Arcadia Valley High School standout Saga Barzowski has joined the ranks of the committed.  Saga will be attending the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, next fall.

Scarlett Fox wasn't always a runner. She played soccer for ten years before her dad urged her to give track a try during her sophomore year at Newsome High School. She quickly became close with the boys and girls team as well as Coach Greene, who she says sparked her passion for the sport. Following her sophomore season, she transferred to Plant High School and began to take running more seriously and ending her soccer career. She joined the cross country team and says thanks to Coach Harrison felt right at home.

Girls Athlete of the Week: Racquel Moses, Milford Mill, indoor track Mar 20, 2012

The senior capped her high school indoor career with three gold medals at the New Balance Nationals Indoor championships in New York City. Running in the Emerging Elites division, Moses won the 55-meter hurdles (24.8 seconds) and the 200 (8.02 seconds) and also ran on the Millers' winning 800 relay team. In helping the Millers finish second at the Class 3A state championship meet last month, Moses won the 200 and ran on the winning 800 relay team. She was second in the 55 hurdles, and her 1,600 relay team also finished second. An Honor Roll student, Moses has signed to run for Mississippi. (via baltimoresun.com)

Greater Louisville Classic College Meet Preview Jonathan Grooms Sep 30, 2010

Louisville, KY- The Louisville Sports Commission (LSC) will host 97 colleges and universities from 20 states in the 9th Annual Greater Louisville Classic (GLC),  which once again will be the largest college meet contested in the south. The Classic, run Saturday October 2nd, will bring together some of the top college cross country programs in the nation, as over 2,000 athletes are expected to compete at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. The event will not only feature vast quantity, but the overall quality of the competing teams continues to improve with each year. The field includes 29 men's teams and 23 women's teams that are currently ranked in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Div- I Regional, NCAA Div. II National, NCAA Div. III National and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Cross Country Polls this season.

Ole Miss track and field head coach Joe Walker announced Tuesday that high school jumpers Ricky Robertson and Marci Morman have signed national letters of intent to join the Rebels next season.  Marci Morman, a long jumper from Ridgeway High School in Memphis, Tenn., is also slated to join the track and field team next season.  Morman owns a personal best distance of 19-11.00 and is ranked 14th in the nation among female high school long jumpers.
