Several Mississippi high school track and field athletes recorded personal bests during competition March 10-14.
D'Lass (DJ) Nunnery (Pascagoula) ran 10.81 in the 100 meters at Battle by the Beach on March 14, improving from his previous best of 11.20 set in February 2026. The senior placed second among 69 competitors and ranks #41 in Mississippi and #18 among seniors.
Alvin McCortey (Moss Point) threw 137-5 in the discus at The Return of the Merchants & Marine Relays on March 14, bettering his previous mark of 124-9 from March 2026. The junior finished third among nine competitors and ranks #48 in the state and #7 among juniors. McCortey also set a personal record in the shot put with 39-3, improving from 38-7.5.
Clint Webster (Saint Martin) won the 3200 meters in 10:47.05 at JT Relays on March 12, improving from his previous time of 11:04.97 set in March 2026. The freshman defeated 16 other competitors and ranks #84 in Mississippi and #5 among freshmen.
Norman Zellers (Coastal Mississippi Wildcats) ran 10:47.05 in the 3200 meters at Coastal MS Wildcat Open on March 14, improving from 11:00.54. The Class of 2030 athlete placed second among 20 competitors and ranks #85 in the state. Zellers also recorded a personal best in the 1600 meters with 5:01.29, improving from 5:32.51.
Alexander Green (Hattiesburg) clocked 14.82 in the 110-meter hurdles at Sabbatini Relays on March 12, bettering his previous time of 15.14 from March 2026. The freshman placed second among 17 competitors and leads all freshmen in the state while ranking #16 overall.
Brian Arenas-Cartagena (Pascagoula) ran 10:46.27 in the 3200 meters at Battle by the Beach on March 14, improving from 11:00.81 set in February 2026. The sophomore finished 21st among 52 competitors and ranks #82 in Mississippi and #12 among sophomores.
Samuel King (Pass Christian) threw 53-1 in the shot put at Pirates Field Day on March 10, improving from his previous best of 51-3. The freshman won the event among 18 competitors, set a Pass Christian High School record, and ranks #3 in the state and #1 among freshmen.
Marvin Diamond (Jim Hill) ran 52.03 in the 400 meters at Demopolis and UWA Tiger Invitational on March 13, improving from 52.86 set in February 2026. The senior placed second among 44 competitors and ranks #109 in Mississippi and #32 among seniors.
Quincy Dawson (Forest Hill) clocked 15.69 in the 110-meter hurdles at Chalmette High Flying Owls on March 11, bettering his previous time of 15.94 from March 2026. The senior finished third among nine competitors and ranks #55 in the state and #16 among seniors.
Orion Brinkley (Biloxi) jumped 22-1 in the long jump at Sabbatini Relays on March 12, improving from 21-8.5 set in March 2026. The freshman placed third among 22 competitors and leads all freshmen in the state while ranking #41 overall. Brinkley also recorded a personal best in the triple jump with 44-2, improving from 41-9.
Ardarius Johnson (Hattiesburg) jumped 46-5.5 in the triple jump at Sabbatini Relays on March 12, bettering his previous mark of 45-9 from March 2026. The freshman placed third among 11 competitors and leads all freshmen in the state while ranking #11 overall. Johnson also set a personal record in the 110-meter hurdles with 16.28, improving from 16.43.
