For any new readers, welcome to Mississippi Future Stars. In this series, we feature young runners who are making waves in Mississippi running. Whether they are breaking records or climbing the rankings, this series is the place where we get to showcase what our younger athletes have been doing and put them on the map!
In this edition of Mississippi Future Stars, we have Warren Gardner from DeSoto Central High School! Warren is currently in the 7th grade and had an outstanding 2024 cross-country season.
In his first ever cross-country season, he had five sub-18 performances and earned a personal best of 17:13 at the Frank Horton "Night" Classic. This time marks him as the fastest 7th grader from the 2024 season, and the 2nd fastest 7th grader to ever compete in Mississippi. In the national rankings, he landed 13th in the entire country, marking him as one of the brightest young athletes in the nation.
Warren's talent and hardwork are evident throughout all of his performances, and his ability to compete on the varsity level at such a young age is a testament to his mindset. Be on the lookout for several records to go down this outdoor season because of this young stud.
