Some of you may not have seen it hiding in the rankings, but Andrew Brown from Tupelo High School broke two state records over the weekend at the Arkansas Invitational!

Starting off his day with the one-mile race, Andrew came into the race confident and let his training speak for itself on the track. Racing against some of the fastest athletes in the country, Andrew Brown placed 4th overall and clocked a 4:19.48 for a new Mississippi high school record. This time ranks him as the 3rd fastest sophomore in the county.

Later that same day, Andrew doubled in the 3000m race, presenting another stellar race. With his heat being full of star-studded athletes, Andrew let them do the work for him and he followed close behind the top pack. With less than half of the race left, Andrew locked in and moved up the pack. At the finish, he posted a time of 8:30.69, revealing a new state record and the 9th fastest time in the country. This time converts to a 9:07 3200m race, which would be the 2nd fastest time ever by a Mississippian, indoor and outdoor.

After his race, Andrew hinted at chasing down the 9-minute barrier in the 3200m this season. If he can run this fast after already running a grueling one-mile on the same day, who knows what a set of fresh legs could do for this young athlete? Only time will tell, but be on the lookout for Andrew Brown as he continues to chase records and climb the national rankings this year!
