This past weekend, the 2023 MileSplit Mississippi showcased the extraordinary talent of the state's top track and field athletes. In a thrilling display of athleticism, a select group of these competitors exceeded the already lofty expectations by hitting the 1st-team standard. This prestigious distinction is reserved for the top ten percent of Mississippi athletes, and their accomplishments should be celebrated. In this article, we will highlight the remarkable performances of these elite track and field stars.
The weekend was filled with awe-inspiring achievements as athletes from all corners of Mississippi gathered to compete. With the 1st-team standard as their target, these athletes pushed themselves to the limit, breaking personal records and setting new benchmarks for the sport. Among the many exceptional performances, several stood out:
Carlando Crump of Senatobia High School clocked an impressive 10.40 seconds, setting a new lifetime best and securing his position as the fastest high school 100m runner in Mississippi.
With a time of 4:2799, Gabe McElwain from Walnut High School broke the previous MHSAA 2A record 1600m run.
Clearing the hurdles with speed, JaBrysten Abram from Senatobia High School secured a new lifetime best and state-leading mark of 38.58 in the 300mH, as well as securing 1st-team marks in the 100m dash and 110m hurdles.
In an impressive display of depth, Clinton High School's Tyler Nichols and Maxiumus Littleton became the best high jump duo in the nation - Nichols cleared 6-10, while Littleton jumped 6-8 at the Bianca Knight Invitational.
All in all, this past weekend in Mississippi Track and Field has been nothing short of spectacular. These exceptional performances have undoubtedly raised the bar for future Mississippi track and field athletes, and we look forward to witnessing the continued growth and success of these talented individuals.
