LIVE RESULTS: 2023 Adidas Indoor Nationals
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --- Mississippi's own Andrew Brown and Roury McCloyen brought back national titles at the 2023 Adidas Indoor Championships.
Tupelo's Andrew Brown has once again wowed Mississippi by winning the 3,000-meter run at the prestigious 2023 Adidas Indoor National Championships, held in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Brown's lightning-fast time of 9:06 has earned him the title of the fastest Mississippi middle school boy to cover the distance, converting to an impressive 9:46 for 3,200 meters.
Brown's incredible performance allowed him to finish three seconds ahead of his closest competitor, Pennsylvania's Rowan Carr, proving his exceptional talent and dedication to win in both in-state and out-of-state competition.
Not stopping there, Andrew Brown came back to secure another victory, winning the 1 mile in an impressive time of 4:36. With this win, Brown walked away with two national titles, further solidifying his already remarkable reputation.
This victory is just the latest addition to Andrew Brown's already impressive list of accomplishments, solidifying his status as the most remarkable middle school distance runner in Mississippi's history. Brown's long list of accolades also include holding the middle school state record for the 1,600-meter run with an astounding time of 4:32.0 and the 3K(XC) record at 9:22.7.
Adding to the list of national titles, Roury McCloyen opened up his season with a national title, winning the shot put with a remarkable throw and lifetime best of 20.53 meters (67 feet and four inches). As we have stated numerous times in the past, McCloyen is debatably one of the best throwers in the nation and the best in Mississippi history, and this victory is just another testament to that statement.
Another testament is the fact that McCloyen is also the only Mississippi athlete to throw over 60 feet in the Shot Put and over 180 feet in the Discus in the same season.
As Andrew Brown and Roury McClouyen continue to break records, win titles, and push boundaries in Mississippi, their names will undoubtedly be remembered as the epitome of middle school sports in Mississippi. Their latest victories at the 2023 Adidas Indoor National Championships further cement their names among the middle school greats, such as current Mississippi distance stars Taylor Brown and Sidney Stegall, and their success, along with the likes of Julie Segroves, John Scott Kendricks, and Cooper Rodgers, has undoubtedly contributed to raising Mississippi's profile in track and field.
