As the Mississippi High School Girls Track and Field season gets underway, fans are keeping a close eye on the "squad rankings" in the 1600m run. These rankings average the top four performers in the state, and can give an early indication of which teams have the strongest distance runners.

Currently, Tupelo High School leads the way with a squad average of under 6 minutes, the only team to do so at this point of the season. This is largely thanks to Brookelyn Morgan's impressive performance of 5:28.2 at the South Panola Opener, a performance that is currently No. 2 in the state. 

Close behind Tupelo is Hernando High School, who boasts a squad average of 6:07.82. Kaitlyn Burge, the No. 1 performer in the state, leads the way for Hernando with a time of 5:27.5 at the South Panola Opener.
