Lucy Littlejohn and Kohl Griffin break course records

EUPORA, Miss. --- What happens when fierce competitors come with their A game for the first meet of the season? Records fall. This is precisely what happened at the 2022 Eagle Claw Invitational.

Lucy Littlejohn of French Camp crushed the course record by two whole minutes.

RESULTS: High School Girls 5K

Kohl Griffin from Germantown also snagged a course record in a superb season opener. He crossed the line with a comfortable twenty-two-second cushion for the record, winning the race by a total margin of twenty-two seconds.

RESULTS: High School Boys 5K

Germantown boys score 15 points

On the boy's side, the Germantown High School Mavericks made a huge statement. They blew their competition out of the water, going 1-5 and scoring a perfect 15 points to take the win.

Kohl Griffin, the senior, led the way, winning in a 17:38, followed by five more of his teammates all in quick succession.

Germantown will definitely look to roll with their momentum and potentially make a significant impact in MHSAA 6A this season.

French Camp girls beat Germantown

On the girl's side, the competition was much tighter. The French Camp girls walked away with a narrow six point victory over the Germantown squad.

Both Germantown and French Camp had four runners each in the top ten, but the dominant Lucy Littlejohn got valuable positioning for the Panthers to win the individual and team titles for her squad.

What we predicted versus what actually happened

So while we predicted that Germantown's first three runners could clear the course record of 18:00, only Griffin did.

However, we did predict that there was a high chance that Griffin and Littlejohn would get the course records, and they did so relatively easily.

That also doesn't take away from the fact that Germantown absolutely swept the top six and their 2-5 split was only 20 seconds. That will be dangerous come championship racing season.

On the girl's side, as we mentioned above, French Camp edged out Germantown... Just like we predicted. As we mentioned in the Weekend Preview: August 27, 2022, this isn't the first time French Camp has taken down the competition in MHSAA 6A, beating out Tupelo High School at the 2021 French Camp Invitational.
