When the going gets tough, Bennett Ferguson gets going. He has proved himself time after time after time, especially in the postseason.

4. Sidney Stegall | Heritage Academy

5K PR: 16:24

Grade: Senior

Classification: MAIS 5A

2021 ranking: Not ranked

Accolades: 6 x MAIS State Champion | Undefeated in 2021 track season

No. 4 on the All-MileSplit Mississippi preseason cross country team is perhaps the biggest dark horse in the state in regards to the 2022 cross country season, and that is Heritage Academy's, Sidney Stegall.

Stegall had what we call a Hollywood season his junior year on the track, going undefeated with a very tough schedule, and securing PR's such as 1:55 in the 800m, 4:20c in the 1600m, and 9:27 in the 3200m. He was the only runner in the state to finish inside of the top 3 in every distance event, setting himself as the most versatile male distance runner in Mississippi.

Unfortunately, much of his cross country season in 2021 was plagued with injury, as he only ran one race, placing second to All-MileSplit Mississippi No. 6 ranked runner William Fugate

RESULTS: 2021 MAIS 5A Cross Country Championships

However, one thing is for certain... Stegall definitely deserves to be on this list, and has a big shot at moving up as the cross country season progresses.

Stay tuned for No. 2 and 3 next week!
