Mississippi High School Girls to Watch at Last Chance

ATHLETES TO WATCH

Lenasia Drummond

School: Hattiesburg High School

Events: 60mH, LJ, TJ

Last Meet: 60mH - 9.39 | LJ - 17-3.25 | TJ - 36-7.5

Drummond returns after her last showing at the Martin Luther King Indoor Track Classic. She nearly tied her state leads in both the long and triple jump and ran one of her fastest 60m hurdle times in her career. Although she remains on top at the state level, she has moved into the ranks of the US top 50 in both the triple jump and 60m hurdles. As of right now, she ranks at US #41 for the hurdles and US #33 in the triple jump.

Meagan Womack

School: Clinton High School

Event: SP

Last Meet: SP - 40-1.25 PR

Womack still reigns as the top thrower of this indoor season and has recently broken her own indoor state record for the shot put. She is on an upward trend and currently ranks at US #42. For reference, her throw of 40-1.25 would have been the state lead by over two feet last outdoor season. Though she has never been a Mississippi state champion before, that may all change this year.

Corshunna Hughes

School: Clinton High School

Event: 60mH

Last Meet: 60mH - 9.62 PR

Yet another Clinton High star that should be kept an eye on. She ranks as the second-best 60m hurdler in the state and has only dropped time off of her performances after each meet. This is her first indoor track season and she is already showing out by consistently improving week after week.

Kennedi Sanders

School: Madison Ridgeland Academy

Events: 60m and 400m

Last Meet: 200m - 24.18

Of course, how can anyone not know the name Kennedi Sanders by now?? The five-time state champion (by individual events) and LSU commit has helped put Mississippi on the map with her blazing-fast performances and top finishes at elite meets, such as the Virginia Showcase. She leads the state in every event that she has run and out of all of those events she ranks very high on the national list as well.

55m (US #4), 60m (US #16), 200m (US #9), 400m (US #12)

Brookelyn Morgan

School: Tupelo High

Events: 3200m

Last Meet: 3200m - 12:12.13

Though she is just a freshman, Brookelyn Morgan is no stranger to the indoor scene. She currently holds the best time in the state for the 3200m and second in the 1600m. The 3200m has seemed to be her main event, thus far in the indoor season, and who knows if she'll have another sub-11 minute performance in store for us this weekend.
