7. Kate Gann - Itawamba AHS
- Last Ranking: #5
- Last Performance: 20:49 5k FTW at the Spartan Invitational
- Next Race: MHSAA Region 1-4A
Starting the list at #7 is Kate Gann from Itawamba. Even though Gann is moving down a couple of spots, it's not like she has been performing poorly - As a matter of fact, as you can see listed above, her last race was a win, her 2nd win of the season, and is also coming off of a 19:51 5k PR. However, not going to Watson somewhat hurt her, as her 5k PR isn't even in the top 10 in the state right now (#14). I still think she deserves to be on this list though, and my guess is she would have at the least broken 19:30, perhaps even 19:15, if she would have run at Watson.
6. Riley Jackson - Hernando High School
- Last Ranking: #7
- Last Performance: 19:18 5k, 11th place finish at the 2021 Watson Invitational
- Next Race: Desoto County Cross Country Championships
Number 6 and moving up a spot is the #2 runner on the top girls team in the state right now, Riley Jackson! She is back folks!! After only running sub-20 once this season, Jackson had the race of her career at Watson, breaking 19:20 in the 5k for the first time and was the 5th Mississippi girl across the line. This was a huge step up for Jackson and creates a lot of momentum heading into the state championships, where she could perhaps run even quicker in a meet as high caliber as the MHSAA 6A State Meet.
