A State Record in the Mississippi High School Activities Association must be run in the State Meet. So Monday's 1A-3A-5A meet came with anticipation of a possible new girls State Record. Saturday at the 2A-4A-6A meet the course at Choctaw Trails was muddy from the rain so the only thing that could hold back a possible new record was more rain. No rain Saturday evening or Sunday so Monday comes overcast and humid for the Class 5A girls race. Brooklyn Biancamano an eight grader from Long Beach high school was ready.
Earlier this season she had run 17:57.14 on her flat home course then the next week ran 18:02.59 here on Choctaw Trails. The question was could she do it by herself and was the course ready.
Brooklyn at the start with her teammates. Ready at the Start.
She lead at the big tree about 1.4 miles into the race. Looking strong but the harder part of the course was coming. Saturday the course was muddy for the next 1 mile and many folks slowed down over that area. Monday it was up to this young lady to run it by herself to put her in position for the record.
The final challenge up the hill to the finish.
Success and a new State Meet record 18:03.50.
