Full Race Recap

It came down to the line and Murphy clocked 8:54.22 while Hart just behind finished at 8:54.45. Those performances moved them up to second and third all-time in New Jersey indoor history including two miles. The only athlete ahead of them is the National Record holder Edward Cheserek who ran a 8:39.15 two mile at the 2013 Millrose Games.

Murphy is just a junior and will be back to defend his title in 2020, he's coming off his first cross country season where he finished third at MOCs and the benefits are clear. This was nearly a 20 second PR, his previous came just a week early when he won Group 3 State Championships at 9:14.93.

Hart was going for his sixth straight Meet of Champions title between cross country, indoor, and outdoor track. He's won two outdoor 3200m titles, two cross country 5K titles, and one indoor 3200m which came last year.
