Meet Information

George County High School in Lucedale, MS will be hosting the MHSAA Region 4-5A, 4-6A, 7-4A, 8-4A & 3-1A Cross-Country Championships on Saturday; October 21, 2017. The meet site will be George County High School, 9284 Old 63S, Lucedale, MS 39452.

According to the MHSAA website, www.misshsaa.com/2017/02/02/2017-19-cross-country-regions/, the following classifications are in our region/district:

1A Region 3/Dist. 8 Resurrection, Sacred Heart

4A Region 7/Dist. 8 Forrest County AHS, Greene County, Northeast Jones, Poplarville, Purvis

4ARegion 8/Dist. 8 East Central, Pass Christian, St. Stanislaus, Vancleave

5A Region 4/Dist 8 Gautier, Long Beach, Pearl River Central, Picayune, West Harrison

6A Region 4/Dist. 8 Biloxi, D'Iberville, George County, Gulfport, Hancock, Harrison Central

Ocean Springs, Pascagoula, St. Martin

Other schools are welcome to attend; however, this is not your designated Region or District Championship race and no awards (other than top ten finishers in the races) will be given to teams competing from other regions.

Schools will be charged a $150 entry fee if you are entering both gender varsity teams and a $75 entry fee if you are only entering one gender varsity team.

We will also be running a District Championship Middle School Meet (boys & girls) on the same morning as the varsity regional championships. Middle school race entry fees will be $75 if you are entering both gender middle school championship races & $50 if you are only entering one gender middle school championship race.

All varsity boys & girls regional championship races will be 5,000 meters. The middle school girls & boys district championship races will be 4,000 meters. All schools will be limited to 10 runners in all varsity regional championship races. An unlimited number of runners per school will be allowedin the middle school races.

The 4K & 5K race course running surfaces will be almost entirely grass. There is only one asphalt running stretch on the race courses. That asphalt running stretch is about 20 meters long. It would be alright if your runners decide to wear racing spikes on the courses.


Schools should park their team buses in the parking lot located directly in front of the football stadium. Spectator parking is also available in the adjacent parking lot. Schools must set-up their team areas inside the course near to the starting line.


You will receive competitor number bibs in your team packet at the meet registration tent when checking-in on the morning of the meet. Each of your runners must wear their assigned competitor number bib in order to be scored in the meet

You must register your school as a participating team as well as enter your athlete in their respective varsity or middle school championship races on-line at mile split. The on-line entry deadline is Tuesday; October 17, 2017 at 11:59p.m. No entries will be accepted after the entry deadline.


Regional Team Champion and runner-up team trophies will be presented in the varsity championship races. Over-all District Team Champion and runner-up team trophies will be presented in the middle school championship races. Top 20 finishers in varsity races will receive tee shirts and top ten in middle school races will receive tee shirts.

After speaking with

several coaches and concerned parents, I am going to move the start times for all varsity classifications up to

9:00am for varsity girls and 9:45am for varsity boys
.The main concern expressed was the lingering

heat and the effect it will have on our runners trying to put their best times

forward as we prepare for the state meet.An added advantage is this should give us greater competition throughout

the classifications.I apologize for any

inconvenience this may cause, but I appreciate your understanding and

flexibility as we do what is best for our runners.



Teams are limited to 10 entries per varsity race. Middle school entries are unlimited.

Since we are combining races, tee

shirts will be awarded to the top TWENTY finishers across the line of the VARSITY
