It was the beginning of a new era in the girl's MHSAA 2A Cross Country Championship race.

That era belongs to none other than Myrtle High School's, Ally Murphy

Murphy, the Mississippi Middle School Girls 3K state record holder, took down the 2022 MHSAA 2A Cross Country Championships, running 20:16.9 to secure her first-ever MHSAA 2A title. The Myrtle seventh-grader took the lead early, eventually extending that lead to 43 seconds.

Murphy's 2022 Cross Country campaign was nothing short of astonishing, consisting of an undefeated season, a middle school title, a high school title, and securing the Mississippi Middle School Girls 3K state record.

As for the team race, it was an East Union sweep as they upset defending champions Walnut High School by four points, 56-60. Walnut went 2-3 with seniors Harley Garner and Madilynn Vuncannon securing spots on the podium, but the Lady Urchins proceeded to put six in front of Walnut's No. 4 to secure the MHSAA 2A team title.
