Mississippi Athletes to watch at Jesse Owens

Teams to watch

Some of Mississippi's top squads are making the trip to Jesse Owens to see how they shape up against some of the best in the South.

The No. 3 ranked team Pearl High School is coming off their best performance of the season from the 2022 Clinton Arrow Cross Country Invitational. All five of their scorers went under 17 minutes for 5k and their frontrunner Jaquevion Bryant ran 15:58 for the win. Last season we saw Brookhaven High School's boys all run 17 minutes at the Jesse Owens Classic, with their top runner, Grayson Childress, running 15:40. Will we see another one of those kinds of performances from Pearl? Only time will tell, but they definitely have the tools to do so. Another team ready to toe the line on Saturday is Corinth High School.

Another two schools to look out for are Corinth High School and Tupelo Christian Prep School.

Corinth is the No. 4 ranked team in the state. They hold a 5k average of 17:19 and have beaten teams such as Madison Central. TCPS is the top team in MHSAA 1A, led by junior Bounds Simmons. Undoubtedly, the 2022 Jesse Owens Classic is one of the most talented-filled competitions in the South, and with some of the best squads from all over competing, it will be exciting to see how the Mississippi schools mix it up.
