Meet Recap: Multiple course records go down

High School Boys Recap

Course record goes down

Saturday, August 13, 2022, was a day for course records at the 2022 Early Bird 2-miler at Neely Farms.

Heritage Christian's Dallas Stricker had a narrow victory over previous record holder Christopher Atkinson of Park Place Christian Academy.

Stricker took it out very hard on a hot day, but Atkinson continually reeled him back in over the next kilometer.

It looked like Atkinson was going to defend his course record, but Stricker somehow struck again coming up the final hill.

Ultimately, It was Stricker that won in an astounding 10:28, 16 seconds under the old course record of 10:42 previously held by Atkinson. Atkinson finished in 10:33, which means he was also under the old course record.

4:49 miler Casey Haddox-Harvey rounded out the top three in 10:48, No. 4 All-time on the 2-mile course at Neely Farms.

What we called versus what actually happened

Well... We were mostly right.

In our meet preview, we called that Stricker would most likely take the win, and we predicted the top five fairly accurately as well.

However, we thought it would be way too hot and way too early in the season to see any course records, especially considering the results from last year.

And although both of those factors were correct, man were we wrong about the times.

Five of the top six times in Neely Farms 2-mile course record history came from the 2022 Early Bird 2-miler, with Stricker, Atkinson, Haddox-Harvey, Brody Creel of PCS, and Denver Carter of Simpson all squeezing into that sub-11 mark.

All of these marks could potentially convert to some very fast 5K's once it gets later in the season and the temperatures begin to drop.

Stay tuned.
