2 races, 2 state records for Tupelo's Andrew Brown

Tupelo's Taylor Brown and Jaheim Bridges along with Clinton's Christian Parks, the three state leaders in the High School Boys 1600m.

Taylor couldn't let Andrew have all of the spotlight at the Samford Open on Saturday, as he and teammate Jaheim Bridges held their own in section 3 of the men's mile. As a matter of fact, Brown and Bridges did most of the work and led about 3/4 of the race mostly filled with collegians. That 'Prefontaine' mentality paid off as they both ran 4:34c, Bridges converted from a 4:35.9 full mile, and Brown from a 4:36.3 full mile. Both runners had hit lifetime PRs.

And, last but not least, Taylor Brown rebroke his age group state record that he set previously at the 2022 Icebreaker Invitational, setting the bar even higher for Andrew to potentially reach in two years' time.

The pair from Tupelo, who are the top returners at the MHSAA 6A Cross Country State Meet and Mississippi Large School, also competed in the 800m and left with two more indoor PRs: Bridges with a 2:03.3 and Brown with a 2:07.7.

Some sibling rivalries may consist of games of H.O.R.S.E. or Fortnite wins. But for the Browns, it is how many age-group state records one can hold.
