Monday Morning Recap: Deep fields in Saltillo

Small School Races

Moving over to the Small School races in the afternoon, the Meeks sisters set the tone taking it out hard and gapping the field early.

At the halfway mark, it looked like they going to hold on the top 2 spots fairly easily. Lucy Littlejohn of French Camp was in 3rd and making up some ground, but still had a good way to go.

However, in what seemed like no time at all, Littlejohn passed Ava Meeks and was making up a of ground fast, gaining on Katie Meeks heading into the woods for the final time.

And Although Littlejohn did indeed make up a lot of ground, Katie Meeks held on for the individual title.

Littlejohn, however, did lead her time to a very impressive team title, as French Camp gained their 2nd win in a row this season, staying undefeated as a team. French Camp is making a name for themselves to be the best small school in the state this year.

In the Boy's small school race, it was all Gabe McElwain up front, taking the lead and never looking back. McElwain also led his team, Walnut High School, to the team title. McElwain and Walnut High School are most likely the favorites to win MHSAA 2A.

Although the times may have not entirely translated, the Saltillo Invitational did not disappoint. Cartwright has been getting each race, and Saltillo was basically just a preview for Watson. It was great to see everyone across the state traveling near and far to race each other, and as a result, Mississippi saw some of the best throw down and give us a show.
