Mississippi Top Five Boys Cross Country Athletes

Grayson Childress, Brookhaven High at MC Season Openers

---

4.     Grayson Childress    Brookhaven        Junior

Number four on the list is the "Brookhaven High Sensation" Grayson Childress. Childress opened up his season with a bang as he won the Mississippi College Season Opener, being the lone runner that broke 17 minutes on a very hot day. He carried that momentum to the very fast Saltillo meet, where he ran a 16:06 5K, good for a 35 second PR. He then backed it up with a very impressive 4th place finish at MC Watson, 16:07 for 5k. All of this, plus a runner up finish in the 5A State Championships while leading his team to back-to-back State Championships wins, is what gave Childress his #4 spot in the state for this year.

Although Childress battled with teammate Sam Arnold for the team's #1 spot on this year's stacked Brookhaven squad, it was Childress's consistency that really stuck out. Childress finished in the top 5 in all nine of his races this year, including two wins. No matter the course, the weather, the competition, or anything else that was thrown his way, Childress always found a way to deliver for his team, and you could always count on him competing for the win. Breaking 10 minutes in the 3200 this upcoming track season is something that is certainly up next for this rising star.
