MHSAA XC State Meet Qualifying Standards Clarified

2020 Cross Country State Meet Qualifying Clarifications

Covid-19 has changed the way we are doing many things during 2020. In an effort to reduce the crowd and participant numbers, the MHSAA developed the following formulas to be used for our 2020 State Cross Country Championships.
• Only the top 60 percentile of teams that are actually competing this season in each class
(based on MS.Milesplit top 5 average for the season) will qualify for the state meet. A
team must run in a minimum of three meets during the season to be eligible to qualify to
run in the state meet!
• Qualify the top 25 individuals in each class (based on MS.Milesplit ranking for the season) whose teams don't qualify for the state meet and meet the time standards set for each classification are:
Class. Boys         Girls

6A      21:30        25:30
5A      22:00        26:00
4A      22:30        26:30
3A      23:00        27:00
2A      23:30        27:30
1A      24:00        28:00

Important Notes: It has become evident since the above formulas were developed, that many schools are not fielding teams this year, thus numbers are down. We will take this into consideration when determining the number of teams that actually qualify for the state meet in each class. It will not be less than 60% but could be more depending on the number of teams, number of participants, and the top five averages of teams in each class.
