Runners on the Northwest Rankin team displayed their patriotism in remembrance of 9-11 at Tuesday's JPS #3 Meet at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.

Each runner on the squad carried a small US Flag with them, but Grayson Edwards took it a step further and ran across the finish with a big US Flag held up on a pole after finishing first in the boys 5000-meter race. His coach was waiting about 50 yards from the finish and handed him the flag. It cost him some time, but he was proud to do his part to honor all those that were lost on that tragic day 18 years ago.

Edwards and his teammates won the team title, 57 to 68 over Oak Grove. Tiler Castillo, West Lincoln was second in the boys race at 18:22.14 his season best time.

In the girls race, it was Aubrey Britt, Loyd Star winning with ease as she ran her season best time of 20:50.97. Skyler Ellis, Northwest Ranking was second in 22:56.99 also her season best time.

Even the sky seemed to cooperate as the meet drew to a close.
