D.P. Daigle: The Run Around

By DP Daigle

Showdown at Long Beach High School

Hey there!  It's me again, Coach Daigle, here to give you The Run Around.  This installment I want preview Thursday's Long Beach Invitational - it's going to be a good one.

On the girls side you've got the #1 Ranked 5A team, Long Beach, the #2, #4, and #6 Ranked 4A teams in Pass Christian, Moss Point, and Vancleave, as well as the #2, and #3 Ranked 2A teams in Saint Patrick and Our Lady Academy all competing at the same meet.  Should be fun to watch.

Similarly on the boys' side you've got other State Title hopefuls in 2A Saint Patrick(#3), 4A East Central (#1), 4A Pass Christian High (#2), and 4A Saint Stanislaus (#6).

Specifically you have Long Beach, Pass Christian, East Central, George County, Saint Stanislaus, Our Lady Academy, D'Iberville, Moss Point, Pascagoula, Pearl River Central, Vancleave, Hancock, and Saint Patrick all competing in Long Beach.

I think the home-standing Lady Bearcats will dominate the meet, but look for Hancock, Pass, and St. Patrick to have good showings too.

Specifically watch the sisters Destini Pickens and Muonie Pickens from Long Beach, they can move!  Another fun matchup to watch will be Brooklyn Biancamano from Long Beach and Lina May from Vancleave, they'll face off in the 800, 1600, and 3200.

On the boys' side, I think it will be a three way fight between Long Beach, Pass High, and East Central.  Individuals to watch will be Cory Hawthorne from D'Iberville - he might crack 10 in the 100M.  Moss Point's Marquez Smith and Clayton Fleming from George County lead a good field in the 400M too.  The 800 should be a tight race too, look for Cole Benoit and Christian Balcer leading that field.  The mile boasts 5 guys under 5 and several knocking on the door, should be some good performances there too.  Finally, keep an eye on Shot Put as Kaya Ludgood of George County looks to go over 50 feet, he's at 49-7.

That's it for this week y'all, see you at the track.
