Another record for Raven Saunders


A breakthrough performance by the Ole Miss weight throwers on Friday highlighted day one of the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame. 


As she has all season, sophomore Raven Saunders stole the show. But this time, it wasn't in her signature event, the shot put. Instead, Saunders spun and whirled the 20-pound chained weight to a distance of 20.78m/68-2.25 that overtook the school record by a foot-and-a-half and ranks her among the top 15 in the NCAA this year. Her mark tied for the best of the day at the Loftus Sports Center, but she officially was awarded second place on a tiebreaker. The previous Ole Miss record was set by All-American Juliana Smith at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships.
