FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Saluki freshman phenom Raven Saunders established her place among the elite in NCAA Track and Field on Saturday after becoming the first true freshman in available records to ever win a national title in the shot put.
Saunders, a Charleston, S.C., native who came to Southern as the No. 1 girls recruit in the nation as the all-time national high school record holder, has felt no pressure on the higher stage this season. Saunders has had an incredible freshman season thus far, shattering the all-time SIU, MVC, MVC Championships and American Junior (Under-19) records along the way, and she demolished three of those two more times on Saturday.
