Howdy Folks, it's your favorite coach on the coast with a preview of the action this weekend in the bottom six.

Last week Biloxi hosted a meet that posted some impressive times.  The top three team totals were as follows. Boys:  1.  Ocean Springs-20, 2.  Madison Central-74, 3.  East Central-122.

The girls' podium was: 1.  Ocean Springs-15, 2.  Pearl River Central-116, Biloxi-128.

This week the coast schedule takes us to Long Beach High School for the Bearcat Cross Country Classic.  It's hard to think of cross country on the coast without thinking of Coach Olan Welch.  He's loud and enthusiastic and has been successful for a long time in both cross country and track & field.  I asked Coach Welch about hosting this weekend and he said, "I've watched this meet grow from a field of eight schools to this year's total of twenty schools. The 3rd annual edition of the Bearcat Cross-Country Classic will have competitors from twenty schools for a total of 490 runners from Louisiana & Mississippi competing in four separate races.  I look forward to the continued growth of the classic over the next few years. But, for now...I'm very, very proud of the huge growth of interest that we're experiencing for this annual event."

Now let's talk about the field of competitors.  Ocean Springs, the top ranked boys and girls team in the state, is travelling to Pensacola, FL for the Gulf Coast Cross Country Stampede.  That leaves room for someone else to get a win at Long Beach.  In all, twenty teams are attending the meet:  Biloxi, Boyet JH (Slidell, LA), CCA, East Central, Gulfport, Hancock, Harrison Central, Long Beach, Northshore (Slidell, LA), OLA, Pass High, PRC, Picayune, Poplarville, Resurrection, St. Martin, SSC, South Jones, and West Harrison.

On the girls' side look for the host team to take it home.  In fact I think your podium will be Long Beach, Pearl River Central, and Biloxi.

The boys' side is tougher to predict.  Look for East Central and Saint Stanislaus to battle it out for the top spot, but don't count Biloxi out - they'll be right there too.  So that's your top 3, unsure of the order though.

That's it folks, see you on the course!
