Louisiana teams sweep Mississippi Ford Invitational: Recap and Photos

2012 Watson - Mississippi College Invitational 10/6

Louisiana teams had strong showings at the 2012 Watson - Mississippi College Invitational held at the beautiful Choctaw Trails race course in Clinton, MS. 

At 10:00am the Girls Varsity Large School 4k race kicked off and Fontainebleau’s Alexa Durham and Parkway’s Alison Ringle separated themselves from the rest of the field early on. While still a close race at the 1.5 mile mark, Durham pulled away in the last mile to win the individual 4k title in 14:58. Parkway’s Ringle finished runner-up in 15:19.

In the Small School Girls 4k, Regan Mcgee(Pass Christian) ran away from the field to win in 14:51. Jewel Sumner girls were the only Louisiana team in the field placing 12th with 299pts and was led by Scotti Dykes who posted a 20th place finish.

The Boys Large School 5k race started at 11:00am and Walker’s Brady Warren moved to the early lead with a 5:05 first mile split followed closely by Leonel Moreno(Sumner), Hayden Kingfisher(Parkway), and a  trio of Runners from West Monroe (Pearce, J. Turner, B. turner). At the 1.5 mile mark, Brady Warren & Leonel Moreno began to create a small gap on the field. Once the leaders entered the last mile, Warren pulled away and won the individual 5k title in 16:07. Meanwhile in the battle for second, Moreno(16:16) held off a late charge by West Monroe’s James Turner(16:16).

West Feliciana was the lone Louisiana team in the Boys Small School 5k division. The WF Saints pulled off a surprise victory over local favorite St. Andrew’s. Robert Gaillet (St. Andrew’s) was the individual champion with a winning time of 17:19. West Feliciana’s Michael Sullivan posted a 3rd place finish (17:38).

In Junior High action, Trafton Academy’s Meghan Becerra won the girls 2 mile race in 13:10 as the Lady Eagles cruised to victory with a low score of 36pts.

3. Madison Central(MS)- 87

 

In the Boys Junior High Race, Trafton Academy’s Eric Coston ran away from the field early passing the mile mark in 5:03 and capturing the boys 2 mile individual title in 10:36.
