Coulter Clement, Water Valley

Another successful race for the Water Valley Cross Country team was put in the books last weekend. My team had three top finishers and a great time at Hickory Flat Invitational. In Varsity Girls 1A-3A action, Lillian Lindsey came in 3rd place with a 22:25. Maris Lindsey came in 25th place in the Junior High girls race, just clinching a top finisher t-shirt. I came in 5th place in the Varsity Boys 1A-3A race and ran a 19:13. It was an exciting meet, and the weather was extremely better compared to the miserable heat last year! The hills are always something that add a few seconds to our times at Hickory Flat. But if you think about a legit Cross Country course, Hickory Flat's always comes to mind.

This upcoming week, we are headed to Saltillo Invitational. As many other teams are doing the same. I am excited to get back on that course. There are a total of 56 teams registered for Saltillo, so I am ready to watch some exciting races also. This week, I have worked on some strength training and speed. I've been trying to lengthen my stride to cover more ground as I run.

Wherever you may be racing this week, I wish you the best. Remember that Cross Country is a sport where YOU are your own competitor. Don't let anything hold you back. Run the race well.

See you on the course,

Coulter Clement
