QA₂ Max PODCAST: Raven Saunders of Southern Illinois – Indoor Shot Put Champ

A year ago, Raven Saunders was the best American high school shot putter ever.  In her first year at Southern Illinois, she somehow got a lot better.  In 2014, she threw 17.27m (56-8.25) for the American high school record; she graduated high school with the eight best throws in HS history and a silver medal at the IAAF World Junior Championships.

So far in 2015, Saunders has thrown 18.62m (61-1.25) for a new American junior record and an NCAA indoor title. She called in to the podcast a week after winning nationals, taking us from her days practicing the spin in a high school library to the improvements in strength and technique that helped her win NCAAs.
