Salute To Seniors: Marshall Nunn - South Lake High School

What was your most memorable race?

It would probably have to be making it to the finals at the state track meet this year. I was able to run against some of the best competition in the nation and had to battle the pouring rain too. That would have to be my favorite track moment.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

I can’t really decide who my toughest competition was since I ran in 3A which to me was the fastest class. There was plenty of competition in Central Florida too. There are just too many to choose from. Having that competition pushed me and brought out the best in me.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment was the finals at the state track meet this year in both the 100 and the 200. I battled the pouring  rain during prelims to make it to the two biggest races of my career. Walking away with two fifth place medals was a pretty good accomplishment too.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would of done my best to stay healthy my first two years of running. By missing those two years, I lacked the experience that most of my competition had.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I suffered a season ending injury in my freshman year and another one towards the middle of my sophomore year. These injuries prevented me from excelling in track so I’ve had to work even harder to get where I am today.  Also, my junior year was the first year I concentrated on track full time, so I lacked the experience of many of my competitors. I had been playing football too for many years.

What will you miss the most?

I will definately miss all of my coaches and teammates. Over these last few years, they’ve been like a second family to me. I will always be grateful to have had them in my life.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

Success does not come easy. You have to work for it and as long as you work hard, you will be a successful person/athlete.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

All of my coaches have pushed me to be the best I can be both on and off the track. They’ve helped me realize my goals and have made me into the man I am today.

What are your college plans?

I signed a track scholarship with Mississippi State University where I will be studying Kinesiology in my undergraduate in pursuit of becoming a physical therapist.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to thank all of my coaches; Coach Ferguson and Coach Odom from South Lake high School, and of course Coach Dennis Mitchell for always pushing me to do my best. I’d also like to thank my family for always believing in me every step of the way.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I am so thankful and blessed that I get to participate in the great sport of track & field. It has impacted my life in such a way that I can’t even explain. I want to thank everyone that helped make my high school track experience one of the best experiences of my life.
